The Republican Florida Legislature and Governor Rick Scott have the wrong priorities for Florida. Instead of focusing on job creation, education, and building a strong economy, Governor Scott’s focus has been on social issues, abortion, and restricting voting rights. My Republican opponent has voted with the governor 100% of the time.
Governor Scott has harmed Florida’s economy by rejecting federal infrastructure and development funds that would have created tens of thousands of jobs for Floridians. He rejected $438 million of federal money intended for Medicaid payments.
Governor Scott and his Legislature’s vision for Florida include privately run prisons, religious schools funded by taxpayer dollars, privatization of government services as giveaways to campaign donors, and a government takeover of women’s bodies.
I am running for Florida State House 85 because I have a much different vision for Florida. My vision for a prosperous Florida is based on fairness, equality, investing in the future, and protecting the middle class.
We need to support Florida businesses and eliminate tax loopholes given to special interest groups.
Florida must invest in public education by keeping class size small and preventing teacher layoffs. We need to fund higher education, rather than continually make drastic cuts to it.
Florida will attract new businesses by having world-class schools, not by corporate giveaways. Our tax rates are already low, but because Tallahassee continually attempts to fund education “on the cheap”, Florida’s schools will lag behind, as will its economic growth.
Government by corporations is government for profit, not government for people.
We need to send a message to Tallahassee that our state is not for sale.
